Puget Sound Clean Air | Your Homes Fireplace | Burn Bans
I have a 1941 fireplace. It is the focal point of the living room and I love it. However, it was not very efficient and due to the prior homeowner it had been damaged. The most economical and environmentally friendly solution was to install an insert.
Not only did this insert close up a very huge firebox it also let me supplement my HUGE electric bill. I don’t use it often and I only use environmentally safe presto-logs. These logs are really a recycled product, using left over mill dust and no wax or fillers. They burn very clean.
Living in the Puget Sound area there are several days when it is illegal to burn your wood stove or fireplace when there is a burn ban on. But, how do you know? When I first moved into my home I signed up for email notification from Puget Sound Clean Air Agency. In fact I follow them on Facebook – and even Twitter.
From the site -
Don’t get burned
Violating an air quality burn ban can result in civil penalties starting at $1,000 per day.
To report a burn ban violation, e-mail our inspectors at: inspection@pscleanair.org. Please include the street address and the ZIP code of the violation to help us prioritize our enforcement activity.

Jo,
The email notification is a great way to stay up todate on burn days. Every air management district should have that program. BTW: The fireplace looks great.
Steve
Steve, I love to follow lots of state and county agencies via email, twitter or facebook, really keeps us informed. Oh, not my fireplace - I was going to use mine but the photo I had was too small so I istocked it :). Thanks for reading.
Jo in Kitsap County....you always have the best resource guides for the residents living in Silverdale, Port Orchard and Bremerton. Are you guys under a burn ban now? Here's to you, keeping warm this fall season in the Pudget Sound area - sending you some sunshine from the East coast!
