Bremerton Marina | Have your Slip?

Back in October I was walking down on the Boardwalk checking out all of the completed revitalization projects the City of Bremerton had completed over 2007 and was mesmerized by the construction of the new Port of Bremerton Marina.  I had the opportunity to talk to a couple of workers who informed me that the project should be complete by April 2008.  Well looks like that date has really been moved up. The major part of construction will now be completed by February 2008!  This is so much earlier than the Port of Bremerton expected that they have started to take reservations for slips at the end of November.

This 22.9 million dollar project has been  controversial for the residence of Bremerton. There will now be 45 visitor slips and 229 permanent slips.  There will no covered moorage at the Bremerton Marina.  It will be interesting to see how fast these are all occupied.  I agree with not having covered slips to protect the visual effect of the Bremerton Boardwalk however, this isn't San Diego.

The city speculates that if the Bremerton Marina does fill and becomes a popular boating destination, it has the potential of adding approximately 2oo jobs and $2 million a year in revenues to the nearby restaurants and shops.

Bremerton | Metropolitan Center of the West Puget Sound

It is now official!! On December 19th, 2007 the Bremerton City Council approved the Downtown Sub Area PlanThis plan gives much needed direction to the core downtown area of the City of Bremerton.  The City of Bremerton has over the last several years implemented several revitalization projects in the Downtown Area.

The Bremerton Downtown Area now has a clear direction when it comes to design standards, zoning, and the over all streetscape.  The plan addresses traffic and pedestrian friendly alternatives. The Downtown Sub Area Plan becomes effective January 2008.

The Sub Area Plan will implement the policies that were approved in the 2004 City of Bremerton Comprehensive Plan with a more specific direction of plan implementation.

In 2001 the huge task of The City of Bremerton Revitalization Project began.  In the last six years several projects have been completed and 2007 was the year of several "dedications".  The Norm Dicks Government Center and City Hall was opened in 2004.  The Kitsap County Housing Waterfront Condominium Project was complete in 2007 along with the Harborside Fountain Park project and the Bremerton Naval Museum with Fountain Viewing Room.  In construction now with completions to be in 2008 and 2009 are The Port of Bremerton Marina Expansion and the Ferry Tunnel

Speaking of Copyright | Seattle PI suspends Reader Blog

At the beginning of December I wrote  a blog about my Wordpress outside blog - Benchpress ~ Wordpress ...My Blog is getting Muscle!!! after seeing several posts discussing blog traffic.  I was excited that a reader blog at the Seattle PI had made a link to my BloggingBremerton blog.  I then inserted a link to this blog - Kitsap and Beyondas a common courtesy - traffic in traffic out as I see it.  Because of the holidays I hadn't been over there for a few days and decided to go and see what was being blogged about. I looked and looked and couldn't find the blog. Hmmm, why not? So I went to my outside blog - BloggingBremerton to hit the link on my blogroll and it took me to this -  Blog Suspended! For COPYRIGHT violation!!! How embarrassing!!

I wonder what happened? I wonder why a person would feel the need to make such a huge violation to be suspended. OUCH!

Bremerton Revitalization | Resourceful, Strong, Courageous. | The Lone Sailor | Bremerton Marina

I had no idea of the plans to bring a replica of "The Lone Sailor"here to the Bremerton Marina! How exciting!! I was browsing the local newspaper The Kitsap Sun and came across the article, ‘Lone Sailor' Bound for Bremerton Marina.  The title intrigued me because I am the spouse of a USN sailor.  As soon as I opened the link I knew what this was about. I have been to the U.S. Navy Memorial in Washington D.C. I have stood next to this "Lone Sailor"!  The "Lone Sailor" is one of the many focal points at the U.S. Navy Memorial that opened 20 years ago.

The Bremerton statue will be the 11thduplicate of the original in D.C.  The Navy League is planning on a dedication ceremony on Memorial Day.  How exciting to have a "National Monument" here in Bremerton.  The Navy League is asking for citizen input as to which direction the "Lone Sailor" should face so please go and VOTEI voted for location number 1.

Have a fine Navy Day!!

Here I am in Washington D.C. August 2003 with the "Lone Sailor"

Be Green - Treecycle

Bremerton residents have the opportunity to Treecycle their Christmas tree until January, 15, 2008.  Just make sure you remove all the ornaments, tinsel and lights before taking it to the recycling drop area.  If your tree has been flocked or you have sprayed "snow" on it you will not be able to recycle because the chemicals used in flocking can be harmful to the environment.

If you would like to receive the wood chips from the recycled trees you can visit the Kitsap County web site for directions. Kitsap County Treecycle Program.

Below is the Bremerton drop off locations.

Bremerton WA Homeowners | What do you know about your Homeowner's Policy?

How many times have you shopped around for homeowners insurance?  This seems to be an item that is left to the last minute and then rushed.  I am sure several new homeowners have just gone with who the lender or escrow agent has recommended because it was quick and easy. Did they get the best deal? Who knows?  I am sure that no one did much research on their behalf.

Have you ever compared rates and coverage on any of your home purchases? Have you ever changed insurance carriers after you have closed?  You pay hundreds of dollars a year in homeowners insurance and yet I bet it is one item that you really haven't spent the time researching.

Does your insurance company even know who you are? Do you have contact with them? Are you getting the service you are paying for?  I challenge you to this - call your insurance carrier and ask some questions, see what they say, see how you are treated and then call a competitor and do the same. This is a very important part of the home buying process so please don't take it lightly.

Bremerton WA Real Estate | It’s Almost Spring!

Doesn't that title just scream!! You're thinking to yourself "SPRING" yeah, right!! There is snow on the ground and the temp is freezing and I am telling you its almost Spring! Yes I am. Think about it. There are only two more months until spring. December is really gone and in a few days it is January.  Then you will have a short month - February and then MARCH!! And SPRING!!!

Spring is a very favorable time to sell a home. Regardless it's a buyer's market or a sellers' market home inventory always rises in the SPRING. Spring is the time when large numbers of buyers start to actively search for a new home.

If you read my last blog, "You WHAT? You have decided to sell in the SPRING?" I talked about some items you needed to accomplish to be ready for the spring market.  Let's recap "the list"!

THE LIST

  1. Get those bulbs in the ground. (This will start your "curb appeal")
  2. Rake those leaves now! (They will kill your grass if you leave them)
  3. Trim those bushes, chop back those trees. (We want to SEE the house!)
  4. Dig up any plants that won't be surviving the winter. (Do it now - not "in the Spring")
  5. Do your "Spring Clean" in January. (When you are taking down the entire Holiday affair)
  6. February is "Paint what needs to be painted" Month. (Yep, it's on a calendar somewhere!)

It might be too late to get some bulbs in the ground but if you don't have frozen soil do it now!

Just remember Spring is Spring and not June. If you don't get your home ready now you will miss the buyers that want to close on a home at the beginning of June so they can enjoy their new home in the summer.

Jan 1st | Not just New Year's Day | No Texting Day

Washington State became the first state in the country to make texting while driving illegal. The bill was signed back in May of 2007 and the first part of that bill will be enforceable on January 1, 2008.  On January 1, 2008 if you text on your cell phone while driving you can be liable for a $101 fine.  Washington started the process after a man caused a five car pileup while using his Blackberry device.  There are several states that have passed laws making talking on your cell phone without a hands free device illegal, but Washingtonis the first to outlaw texting while driving.  In July, Washington will also join those states and make it illegal to talk on your cell phone without a hands free device.

I just wish these weren't secondary offenses. I think talking on a cell phone or texting for anyone to see should be enough to get you pulled over! If you talk or text while driving - ZAP - ticket!!!

Have a Cell Phone just laying around? Donate it to - Cell Phones for Soldiers!

Cell Phones for Soldiers was founded by teenagers Robbie and Brittany Bergquist in April of 2004 with $21 of their own money. Since then, the registered 501c3 non-profit organization has raised almost $1 million in donations and distributed more than 400,000 prepaid calling cards to sailors, soldiers, airmen and Marines serving overseas.

Here is how it works.  The cell phones collected are then sent to ReCellular, which in return pays Cell Phones for Soldiers for each donated phone.  The donation is enough to provide an hour of talk time to a military member deployed or stationed overseas.

An estimated 130 million cell phones will be replaced this year in the US.  Most of these cell phones are either thrown away or stuffed somewhere to be forgotten.  Most people have no idea what to do with their old/used cell phone.

So pass this information on. Click for all the ways you can donate your used cell phone for free - drop it off or send it in the mail.

New I-5 lanes and ramps in Tacoma ~ What a Pleasure to Drive From Bremerton to Seattle!!

Have you driven the new I-5 at the 16 exchange?  I use to drive over to the "other side" about 4 days per week and that spot merging onto the I-5 always scared me to death!! I had no idea how many accidents were. Being out of the area the last couple of years I had no idea what all the construction was about. So when I heard on KIRO that the new lanes would be opened I was like - oh, that is what that is!!!  Yesterday was the first time I drove over to Seattle from Bremerton and oh WOW!!! What a change!! How smooth the transition is from 16 to Northbound I-5 is amazing!! I didn't feel like I was in a race to change lanes with traffic just barreling down on me!! Loved it!!! Here is a great article from The News Tribune if you missed it. There is also a map so you can view the changes. I love the new I-5 interchange!!

Have you driven this stretch yet? How did you like it? Do you feel that the cost is worth the accident reduction. During a two year period (2003-2004) there were 366 accidents on this section per the DOT. The DOT estimates there will be a reduction of 75 per year with the new configuration. I couldn't find the actual cost but I do believe this project was included in the 2005 gas tax plan.

December 7, 1941 ... A Date Which Will Live in Infamy

Please don't forget to take a moment and remember how the lives of those before us were changed on this day. My husband is a United States Navy sailor so this day is always remembered in our household. I am always amazed at how many Americans don't have any knowledge about the events that have shaped our great county.

Please Contact Your County ~ Washington Flood Information ~ Report Damages

While driving around town yesterday I had my radio turned to KIRO and was listening to their information on the flood damage. They had a person on who was with the Washington State Emergency Management Division. He was giving information on how things work and said it is very important that each person who has flood related damage report it to their respective county via the webpage if possible. This is how they track the disaster toll in dollar amounts and how they then receive government aide to help those affected.

Marine Corps Toys for Tots Campaign

Just a little reminder - Don't forget to give to Toys for Tots.

Toys for Tots is a Marine Corps Reserve community service project.  You will see Marinesin their dress blues at malls, shops and local businesses soliciting donations. If you see one of their barrels please make sure you drop something in.  On the Toys for Tots official websiteyou can find a drop location, or take your donation to any ToysRus. You can also watch the 60th Anniversary slide-show celebration and see some of the prior year campaign posters.   Toys for Tots is very special to many families in our great country.  The toys collected will be given to families in need in many areas.

My husband who is in the Navy is stationed with a Marine Corps unit in Anchorage, Alaska is gearing up to go out "on remote delivery" for Toys for Tots. The Alaska Marines do this every year prior to Christmas.  This year there are two teams. Team #1 will fly into Galena  and deliver via snowmobile toys to the school in Ruby.  Usually they travel to Koyukuk and Nulato too, but due to the warm weather up in Alaska and the late icing the toys for Koyukuk and Nulato will have to be flown in.  The native guide they use has told them it is too dangerous to ride the snowmobiles over the water right now.  There will be toys delivered to about 550 children and teens in the remote city/villages of Ruby, Koyukuk and Nulato.  Team #2 will be flying into McGrath and delivering to Nikolai. There is a high school there that offers a trade school so they will be delivering to these teens. It is nice to know an organization that realizes older children are just as important.

For some of these kids these will be the only gifts they receive. For some these are the only toys they receive for a year. Until the next remote delivery arrives.

I know my husband enjoys this part of his job tremendously - the adventure of the Alaska wilderness on snowmobiles in minus 10, 20 or 30 degree weather and the look on the kids faces when they bring in the toys - and yep one of the Marines dresses up as Santa.

Real Esate Professional Resume ~ I Color Outside the Lines AND I Run With Scissors

That is why you want me on your side!! Those two statements might have seemed like trouble when we were 4 but now as adults they are very important. In the business world today you need someone that is willing to be BOLD and BUCK the norm.

When you are buying, selling or investing in real estate you need a professional that will think

outside the box - sort of like coloring outside the lines. A little bold, a little daring.

If a real estate professional stays with in the "comfort" of the business, follows the "pack" and does exactly what all the others do how does that give you an edge? Why would you want this person on your team? I would rather have a REBEL as my team leader than a Mr. Conventional.

Do you want a professional whose attitude is to try anything at least once? A professional that is willing and almost possessed with doing things "outside the lines"?

The REBEL Buyer's Agent (RBA)

  • Shows "for sale by owner property" (shows they are not afraid to negotiate)
  • Helps you devise a negotiating strategy.
  • Always performs a CMA on property you are interested in making an offer on
  • Calls property owners in an area you are interested in to see if they want to sell
  • Ask you to make your offer contingent on their presentation in person to the seller
  • Place "property wanted" ads on your behave

The REBEL Seller's Agent (SBA)

  • Publish a brochure for YOU to hand out to your sphere
  • Create a personal web page just for your property
  • Host a party - not an open house, not a brokers open, a real party to include sending out of invitations - and "e-vites", provide fun/trendy hors d'oeuvres / appetizers, provide some type of entertainment like a hypnotist.
  • Research the history / uniqueness about the home and try and get the local media interested
  • Create a "home blog" this is the "new age" home book.

See these are all "out of the lines" "running with scissors" ideas. They take a professional that isn't afraid to be talked about, isn't afraid to do new things, isn't afraid of "peer pressure" because in the long run - who the heck cares what the other professionals think, it's not about them it's about YOU the all important customer.

Call me up and I will come jump on beds, or run thru sprinklers, or slide down tubes to help you achieve your Real Estate Goals - no kidding, Just ask!!

Yes, I admit I was a little behind the times ..Until ActiveRain!

Until I joined ActiveRain I was a little "out of it" when it came to the real estate industry.  I wasn't what I would call one of the "hip" agents. I was just one of the normal, do it how it's done, boring agents.

I had been out of the area and not selling real estate but working in title/escrow for the last 3 years and when I came back to my market area I just proceeded on with my career as usual.  Then one day I was searching for some type of marketing, advertising or I can't even remember what and I stumbled upon ActiveRain. Of course I signed up, I posted an intro and my first blog within a day a new group!! Can you believe that? (what a goon huh?! lol) Had I read all the blogs about the community - um no, had I taken the time to learn the community traditions - um no. Then I had a very personal and very emotional sequence of events that tragically ended with the death of my Father so I was a way for about 4 months.  That is why you will see a big space in my blogs.

So when I came back to ActiveRain I was a newbie but not a newbie.  I was running to catch up. I really did feel left behind. So I worked hard and read a ton of blogs, so many I would get blogeyed and blogbutt but then I started to write!!

I then realized that there is more to this blogging thing than just blogging on AR. I was so behind!!! I had a website and now I needed a blog. I could see how I was receiving Google juice from my AR blog so I thought "the more the merrier" so I started a wordpress blog. My wordpress blog receives all of the blogs I post here at AR in the Localism section. In doing so my wordpress blog gets good exposure too. I attribute this to what I have learned here. Today I knew I had finally (well sort of) caught up.

I received my first comment on my wordpress blog - A COMMENT!!!! See it doesn't take much to excite me!! Small obtainable goals are just as fulfilling as huge ones!! I always make small ones that usually help me fulfill the huge ones.

So today I feel a bit "accomplished" and with that "motivated"!!

Thanks to everyone that helped me get here!!!

ETA: If you want to see how "hip" I now am take a look at my entrance to the Inspired by Song December contest - My Guilty Music Pleasures - I even sing in it !!
